Budget and Credit Counseling

Lubbock Housing Finance Corporation offers budget and credit counseling services to persons who want to buy a home or start/expand a small business but may be unable to obtain financing to do so because of credit problems.  LHFC helps clients establish a manageable budget, contact their creditors to set up payment plans on bad accounts, etc.  The only fee for these services is the cost of the credit report-- $15.50 for individuals and $21 for married couples

Income Tax Preparation and E-filing (FREE!)

Lubbock Housing Finance Corporation provides administrative services for the Coalition of Community Assistance Volunteers (CCAV), a non-profit organization which organizes volunteers trained by the IRS to provide FREE income tax preparation services for elderly, low-income, disabled, and non-English speaking persons.

DURING THE 2003 and 2004 TAX SEASONs, MORE THAN 5,500 PERSONS FROM LUBBOCK AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES WERE ASSISTED BY CCAV.

Tax returns prepared and e-filed at no charge if your income is less than:

Free income tax preparation will be provided each Monday thru Saturday from January 16 to April 16, 2007 at:

        1708 Avenue G (now known as Crickets Blvd.)-enter through the west door on 18th Street (between Avenue G and Buddy Holly)

Persons wishing to have their 1040EZ, 1040A, and simple 1040 tax returns prepared for FREE must bring the following documentation with them to the VITA site:

bulletForms W-2 and 1099 (from every place you worked in 2006)
bulletSocial Security cards for yourself and all dependents
bulletPhoto ID for all taxpayers
bulletAny other information that would help us prepare your return  (such as a copy of your 2004 tax return)
bulletVoided check for checking account and/or deposit slip for savings account (if you'd like your refund to be deposited directly into your account)

If you have a checking or savings account, you may choose to have your refund deposited automatically and will typically receive it within 10 days of having your return prepared.  If you don't have a bank account or would rather receive your refund by check, you should typically receive it in less than 14 days.
